COLUMBUS, GA., November 11— Kodak’s Columbus manufacturing facility, one of the world’s largest producers of printing plate material, is celebrating its 15th anniversary. The plant’s 265 employees manufacture high technology, digital printing plates that are used throughout North and South America to print everything from books and magazines to boxes and bumper stickers.

The Columbus Public Library will commemorate the anniversary with a series of open house events at the Main Library on Macon Road from on Nov. 14 and 16 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A special exhibit in the Synovus Room will feature the history of lithographic plate technology and provide an in-depth look at the Columbus plant, including its manufacturing processes, various plant expansions and a collage dedicated to the plant’s employees. An array of customer products printed with plates manufactured at the Columbus facility also will be exhibited.

Occupying more than 250,000 square feet, the facility houses the largest printing plate manufacturing site in the Americas and ranks in the top 1 percent of all employers and the top 5 percent among manufacturing companies in the greater Columbus area. The plant first opened in 1990 and began production the next year with an initial workforce of nearly 90 people from the Columbus area and more than 30 who relocated from New York State.

“We are celebrating 15 years of success because of our employees’ dedication to excellence and because of the support from our community,” said Nancy Kot, Plant Manager. “We have consistently improved the plant’s productivity and quality performance. It’s a facility Columbus residents can be proud of, and we will continue to strive for even greater success.”

In May, the facility was nominated for Georgia’s Manufacturer of the Year Award for its “high degree of corporate responsibility, economic impact on Georgia and overall workforce excellence.” It also has earned numerous accolades for environmental and safety excellence, including the Georgia Water Pollution Environmental Performance Award from the State of Georgia, Environmental Protection Agency Division and a National Safety Council Award for its  workplace incident record.
