LA HULPE, BELGIUM, Oct. 12—Agora SA, one of the largest media groups in Poland, has strengthened its print infrastructure by installing three KODAK GENERATION NEWS 250 Platesetters. The company has invested in the technology to enhance the stability of its set-up, boost efficiency and quality, and increase its production capacity.
Agora chose the KODAK GENERATION NEWS Platesetters not only because it met all of its technical requirements, but also because of the company’s long-standing relationship with Kodak. The company first implemented the KODAK Technology five years ago when it invested in the KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS 200 Platesetter and the KODAK THERMALNEWS GOLD Digital Plates. The systems performed very well, so when it came to further investment in CTP systems and thermal technology, Agora naturally turned to Kodak again.
Agora and Gazeta Wyborcza, the first independent newspaper in Poland, were created on the eve of the parliamentary elections in 1989. Since then, Agora has grown into one of the largest and most renowned media companies in the central and eastern Europe, with a portfolio that includes radio stations, newspapers and magazines, outdoor advertising, a wide range of online activities, as well as selling books, CDs and DVDs.
Gazeta Wyborcza, however, is Agora’s flagship operation. It is Poland's second-largest daily newspaper, selling 411,000 copies everyday and boasts a readership of five million people. Agora also publishes Metro, the third most-read daily newspaper in Poland, plus 14 color magazines that cover a broad range of topics, from interior design and the home to culinary and lifestyle titles.
The company has a vast publishing portfolio, so had to be sure that the system installed could not just deliver speed and quality, but also was robust enough to take the frantic pace. This is the reason why it chose the GENERATION NEWS 250 Platesetter which has all the right credentials and will be more than capable of handling the relentless pressure it’s put under.
Agora has always made market-leading technology the cornerstone of its business, and the company believes that GENERATION NEWS 250 Platesetter will help it expand its business.
The system is equipped with lots of automatic functions, which are great for publishers who are working to ever-tighter deadlines and with advanced automation that greatly reduces the opportunities for mistakes.
The GENERATION NEWS 250 Platesetter incorporates KODAK MERCURY P-HD Processors The system also uses innovative KODAK SQUARESPOT Imaging Technology, which ensures greater stability for better plate quality, more reliable production, and reduces the need for repeat imaging. The GENERATION NEWS Platesetters can produce 248 broadsheet plates per hour and can be upgraded to 300 plates per hour, making them the fastest newspaper CTP systems currently working in the Polish market. The solutions will work with the KODAK THERMALNEWS GOLD Digital Plates, which are ideal for newspaper production. The GENERATION NEWS Platesetters don’t need regular calibration to ensure stable results in daily production. Furthermore, the plates imaged with the devices guarantee shorter press set-ups and printing stability in addition to significant time and cost savings.
The GENERATION NEWS Platesetters are compatible with many worfklow systems, including KODAK NEWSMANAGER Production System with KODAK PRINERGY EVO Software, which provides correction, normalization, color management and optimization functions.
